Religion and Knowledge, Worlds Apart.

In case people that actually read this stuff thought my strange classrooms consisted only of rehabilitation and military stuff :}

I first learned about this religious thing as a child and  as a child really did not like it very much. My main classroom was The Theocratic Ministry School for two hours EVERY Thursday night. I could read before I went to bloody normal school! Up until I refused to go anymore I spent 1144 hours in just that classroom. Quadruple that figure and you have a rough estimate how long I spent with my head in the Bible.

(And before someone jumps up and says this is Jehovah Witness stuff, they did not manage to indoctrinate me, neither did the SADF or anyone else for that matter. Besides I personally hate the buggers and hold that religion directly responsible for my mothers death 21 years ago)

I left any form of religion or spiritually for many years after that mission. Then one day I decided it was time to go look at this again and took up a Bible study class or three. The one where I found the most inconsistency with the very Book they were teaching is the Born Again Charismatic kind. The one thing that really pissed on my battery, was when I asked questions, that they could not answer in a logical intelligent way, they ALWAYS fell back that it was because God did not want us to know, and claimed God did not want us to know about Him. Divine mystery. We are too dumb. Bullshit, here is proof, from their own Book that is just what I called it.

And before the “holier than thou” jump on their horses and attack me from “higher moral ground“. I would advocate that everyone reads the Bible at least once and pays special heed to what the man they called Jesus ACTUALLY said.   The stuff in brackets between the scriptures are just my thoughts at the time about 7 years back.

Why we should seek:

  • Knowledge. (Information, facts, data.)
  • Acquaintance. (Familiarity, awareness, understanding, comprehension, realization, experience, expertise, skill, know-how.)
  • Wisdom. (Learning, education, intelligence, erudition.)

Scripture that says knowledge is imperative or to be sort out.

Prov. 1:7 “The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge. Wisdom and discipline are what mere fools have despised.

(Through discipline one may obtain wisdom?)

Prov. 15:7 “The lips of the wise ones keep scattering knowledge about, but the heart of the stupid ones is not like that.

Ecc. 9:10 “All that your hands find to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising, nor knowledge nor wisdom in She’ol, the place to which you are going.

(Scripture shows we ALL go to Hell!)

Isa.11:9 “They will not do any harm….. Because the earth will certainly be filled with the knowledge of Jehovah.”

(Knowledge in this context = understanding, comprehension and familiarity. Nothing about us being too stupid to understand God and thereby his will.)

Da.1 “……having insight into all wisdom and been acquainted with knowledge….”

(Among them Daniel, who refused the Kings bribes to misuse said knowledge, and God gave Daniel and co. even greater knowledge because of this.)

Da. 12:4 “And as for you, O Daniel, seal up the book, until it is time and the true knowledge will become abundant.

(Talks about those having insight will understand. The only way to obtain insight is to study the Book = knowledge, intellect etc.)

Ho. 4:1 “Hear the word of Jehovah, O sons of Israel, for Jehovah has a legal case with the inhabitance of the land, for there is no truth, nor loving kindness nor knowledge of God in the land.

Ho. 4:6 “my people will certainly be silenced, because there is no knowledge. Because the knowledge is what you yourself have rejected, I shall also reject you from serving as a priest to me; and because you keep forgetting the law of your God, I shall forget your sons, even I.

(Legacality is ordained and enforced by God! Part of the case against His own people is a lack of knowledge and\or rejection of that knowledge God rejects His own people.)

Lu. 11:52 “Woe to you who are versed in the Law, because you took away the key to knowledge: you yourselves did not go in, and those going in you hindered!”

(So condemned not because they knew the Law but because the misused it and dissuaded those whom were seeking knowledge.)

Joh 17:3 “This means everlasting life, the taking in knowledge of you, the one true God, and of the one you sent forth, Jesus Christ.

(Black and white: everlasting life requires not only accepting Jesus, but taking in knowledge of both Jehovah and Jesus. Points out we need to get to know BOTH. No mention of getting to know the Holy Spirit.)

Joh. 17:23 “I am in union with them and you in union with me, in order that they may be perfected into one, that the world may have the knowledge that you sent me forth and that you loved them just as you have loved me.

(We need to know that they are separate! Otherwise following the Trinity doctrine – we are all God and Jesus!

1 Ti. 6:20, 21 “O Timothy, guard what is laid up in trust with you, turning away from the empty speeches that violate what is holy and from the contradictions of the falsely called “knowledge.”

For making a show of such “knowledge” some have deviated from the faith.

(Must be careful! Contradictions = falsehood NOT “we are too stupid to understand.”  Bombardering people with scriptures = making a show?

Pr. 1:22, 23 “”How long will you inexperienced ones keep loving inexperience………how long will you stupid ones keep hating knowledge?”

Turn back at my reproof. Then you I will cause my spirit to bubble forth; I will make my words known to you.”

(Not we won’t be able to understand the bible, if we love – opposite of hate – knowledge we will receive the spirit.)

Pr. 1:28, 29 “At that time they will keep calling me, but I shall not answer: they will keep looking for me, but they will not find me, for the reason that they hated knowledge, and the fear of Jehovah they did not choose.

(Hating knowledge is bad.)

Pr. 8:10, 11 “Take my discipline and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than corals, and all other delights cannot be made equal to it.

(Knowledge is more precious than gold. We will find delight in wisdom.)

Pr. 9:10 “The fear of Jehovah is the start of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Most Holy One is what understanding is.”

(Unless we seek knowledge of God, we will have no understanding.)

Pr. 10:14 “The wise are the ones that treasure up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish one is near to ruin itself.”

(So one that has no knowledge, and shouts the odds is near to ruin.)

Isa. 53:11 “…..By means of his knowledge the righteous one, my servant, will bring a righteous standing to many people…”

(In order to be God’s servant we need to have knowledge.)

Jer. 3:15 “And I will give you shepherds in agreement with my heart, and they will certainly feed you with knowledge and insight.”

(A promise from God, so our leaders should not tell us it is not for us to understand but give us knowledge.)

Mal. 2:7 “For the lips of a priest are the ones that should keep knowledge, and the law is what people should seek from his mouth; for he is the messenger of Jehovah of armies.”

(Our leaders had better have knowledge and accurate knowledge at that as the chapter goes on to say that the priests were using the law to their own benefit.)

2 Pet. 3:17, 18 “You, therefore, beloved ones, having this advance knowledge, be on your guard that you may not be led away with them by the error of the law-defying people and fall from your steadfastness. No, but go on growing in the underserved kindness and knowledge of our lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

(Must have knowledge of the law in order to know who is defying it. Again gain more insight into Jesus.)

Ro. 1:28 “And just as they did not approve of holding God in accurate knowledge, God gave them up to a disapproved mental state, to do the things not fitting,”

(Goes on to say that because of following inaccurate practices they will be judged.)

Ro. 3:20 “Therefore by works of law no flesh will be declared righteous before him, for by law is the accurate knowledge of sin.”

(We admit sin by knowing the law, and thereby appreciate Jesus’ sacrifice completely. If we have not got accurate knowledge of the law we could use the excuse, “But I lived a good life.”  Without having the law of faith.)

Eph. 4:13, 14 “until we all attain to the oneness in faith and in the accurate knowledge of the son of Man…   so that we should no longer be tossed about as by waves and carried hither  and thither by every wind of teaching by means of trickery of men, by means of cunning in contriving error.”

(Without knowledge we will not know who is deceitful and cunning.)

1 Tim. 2:3,4,5 “This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, whose will it is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, a man Christ Jesus.”

(God wills us to have accurate knowledge of the truth, no wishy washy bullshit some try to feed us.)

Ro. 10:2 “For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God; but not according to accurate knowledge.”

(So zeal is not enough, one needs knowledge.)

1 Cor.14:20 “Brothers do not become young children in powers of understanding, but be babes as to badness:; yet become full – grown in powers of understanding.”

(Yes, this be as a child has been grossly exaggerated!)

2 Pet. 1:5, 6 “Yes, for this very reason by your contributing in response all earnest effort, supply to your faith virtue, to your virtue knowledge, to your knowledge self-control, to your self-control endurance, to your endurance godly devotion, to your godly devotion brotherly affection, to your brotherly affection love.

Romans 12:1-2 “Consequently I entreat YOU by the compassions of God, brothers, to present YOUR bodies a sacrifice living, holy, acceptable to God, a sacred service with YOUR power of reason. 2 And quit being fashioned after this system of things, but be transformed by making YOUR mind over, that YOU may prove to yourselves the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. . .”

Romans 1:18-23 18 For God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way, 19 because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. 20 For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable; 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify him as God nor did they thank him, but they became empty-headed in their reasoning’s and their unintelligent heart became darkened. 22 Although asserting they were wise, they became foolish 23 and turned the glory of the incorruptible God into something like the image of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed creatures and creeping things.

Hosea 6:6 6 For in loving-kindness I have taken delight, and not in sacrifice; and in the knowledge of God rather than in whole burnt offerings.. . .

And that is what this non-Christian found out in the Christians own hand book.

IF you haven’t done it yet get a copy of “The Shack” and read it
I am have way through and the one thing that stood out like a monument is the quote: Get away from you religious conditioning – Christianity is not a mystery and not as difficult as the experts give it out to be.

  2. karen Says:

Romans 12: 2…but be transformed by making YOUR mind over

    (interesting)

Galatians 6: 15 For neither is circumcision anything nor uncircumcision, but a NEW CREATION is what matters

    (for me: very interesting)

    I love the writings

religion, religionists, religious talk…doesn’t sway me in the least, i enjoy far more

but I understand the seriousness of RELIGIONESTS WHO SUPPRESS THE TRUTH!

    As you quoted:
Romans 1:18-23 18 For God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are SUPPRESSING THE TRUTH in an unrighteous way, 19 because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them.

Thanks for stopping by my site.

I must say I disagree with your interpretation of these verses. I see this is a classic case of eisegesis rather than exegesis.

    Examples:

“Prov. 1:7 “The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of knowledge. Wisdom and discipline are what mere fools have despised.

“(Through discipline one may obtain wisdom?)”

–Where does this verse say that we obtain wisdom through discipline? It clearly doesn’t actually say this. Even so, it seems that it is possible to do so, disciplined study, for example, would lead to one gaining wisdom.

“Ecc. 9:10 “All that your hands find to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising, nor knowledge nor wisdom in She’ol, the place to which you are going.

“(Scripture shows we ALL go to Hell!)”

–Knowledge of what this actually says is helpful. The Hebrew word She’ol can also mean “grave” (Brown-Driver-Briggs Hebrew Lexicon, Strong’s Lexicon). We are all actually going to the grave. Again, you are reading a meaning into the text.

“Ro. 3:20 “Therefore by works of law no flesh will be declared righteous before him, for by law is the accurate knowledge of sin.”

“(We admit sin by knowing the law, and thereby appreciate Jesus’ sacrifice completely. If we have not got accurate knowledge of the law we could use the excuse, “But I lived a good life.” Without having the law of faith.)”

–I counter with Romans 1:20 ” For his [God’s] invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. ” Taking verses out of context doesn’t make your interpretation valid.

That’s from only 5 minutes of reading. Perhaps looking at what Jesus did actually say may be helpful:

“Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me”- John 14:6

Again, thanks for stopping by my site. I’d love to have dialogue sometime.
